Each 500, 750 and 1,000-gallon Tuff Tank is supplied with two 5" and two 12" removable lids positioned at the four top corners. The 5" lid provides access for connecting a 4" waste pipe. For a secure, leak-free setup, use our WC Connector Kit to create a fully sealed waste entry point.
There are many ways to fine-tune Tuff Tanks for your application : connect to an existing toilet block with our WC-Tank Connector; add a tank breather valve which doubles as an odour control device; link tanks together; and monitor high liquid levels with our handy Level alarm.
Tuff Tanks are made from a high-quality plastic polymer suitable for storing water, wastewater and toilet waste. If you plan to use a Tuff Tank for other liquids or industrial applications, please contact us first, our team can confirm material compatibility to ensure safe and long-lasting performance.
Tuff Tanks are above ground waste storage tanks and are not suitable for burial. Underground tanks are typically cylindrical with reinforced ribs to withstand soil pressure. The weight of wet, compacted earth can be immense, so only purpose-built underground tanks should be used below ground.
Tuff Tanks are static tanks only and aren’t designed or warrantied for movement when full. Once filled, they become extremely heavy, weighing around 2,143 kg for the 500 gallon model, 3,590 kg for the 750 gallon, and 4,766 kg for the 1,000 gallon version. So they must stay in place during use.
Yes and no. Tuff Tanks were made in slate grey until 2020, but supply chain issues during the Covid pandemic meant switching to glossy black polymer — a “Henry Ford moment” of “any colour you like, as long as it’s black.” With supply now stable and customer feedback positive, black remains our standard colour.
Tuff Tanks are designed to be easily linked together, allowing you to expand storage capacity as needed. This means you don’t need to stock multiple tank sizes for different jobs. One linking kit works across the range. Each tank includes four built-in 2" brass inserts that form the connection points for linking.
Yes, but only when empty. Tuff Tanks can be safely stacked for storage or transport, but stacking when full exceeds design limits and voids the warranty. A 500 gallon tank filled with waste weighs around 2,413 kg, so stacking multiple full tanks would place excessive pressure on those below.
Yes, the 500 gallon Tuff Tank (140 kg) can be moved manually, ideally by four people for safety. Larger 750 and 1,000 gallon tanks (180 kg and 220 kg) require machinery. All models feature four lifting handles, strap guides and forklift slots. Once in position, they can be easily pushed or adjusted to connect on site.
Tuff Tanks are available in 160, 500, 750 and 1,000 gallon capacities. The first model, launched in 2010, was the 500 gallon version. A compact 160 gallon Mini Tuff Tank followed in 2016, with 750 and 1,000 gallon options added in 2019. High demand during Covid saw a second 500 gallon tool introduced to boost production.
Tuff Tanks are proudly made in the UK using a process called rotational moulding. This method involves heating a hollow mould filled with a high-quality plastic polymer to create strong, uniform tanks with consistent dimensions. The polymer includes UV filters, essentially built-in sunscreen, ensuring durability and a long working life outdoors.
A Tuff Tank is a flat, low-profile plastic waste holding tank designed for the safe and temporary storage of liquids such as sewage, wastewater or grey water. Commonly used on construction sites, glamping sites and outdoor events, it provides a durable off-grid solution where no mains connection is available.
Waste is typically removed from a Tuff Tank using a vacuum tanker through one of the two 12-inch removable lids on its top surface. The tanker will need to get fairly close to the tank to extract the waste, so check access with your local waste haulage company. A submersible electric pump can also be used if preferred.
