Above Ground Water Storage Tanks

These tanks provide a superb solution for storing potable an non-potable water when access to a main water supply is not available or you need to store water (from the mains) to cope with peaks in demand.

If you don't have mains water on site and/or the water pressure is low, you will use an above ground tank to store potable or non-potable water brought to your site by a delivery vehicle tanker, for example. In this case, we'll be able to advise you on suitable connections (a) for the water to be pumped into the tank from the delivery vehicle and (b) drain valves so that you can access that water, usually from a point near the base of the tank.

Did you know, the water in non-potable tanks could be used to :

  • Flush toilets
  • Provide water on constructions sites or civil engineering applications
  • From cement mixing to dust suppression, to wash down machinery or vehicles
  • An extra resource in he unfortunate event of a fire

Did you know, the drinking water in potable tanks could be used:

  • Where mains water isn't accessible or the pressure is too low to cope with demand
  • For a temporary water supply for events, festivals or a temporary camping sites
  • As back-up emergency drinking water supply
  • For food industry applications

"Potable" water tanks are moulded using "WRAS-approved" plastic polymer. WRAS stands for Water Regulations Approvals Scheme: an independent UK certification body for plumbing products and materials, helping business and consumers choose products that don't cause any detrimental effects on the safety or quality of the drinking water.

Capacities range from 2,500 to 30,000 litres (500 to 6,600 gallons) but if that's not enough, you can also link these tanks together to create additional volume.

These water tanks can be configured in may ways, with:

  • fittings to get the water into the tank
  • drain valves to allow pump connection / water removal when the tank is full
  • breather valves and bolt down feet
  • part-fill valves to allow tanks to be topped up with the mains water when required
  • liquid level sight glasses and linking kits...

If you're interested in using an Above Ground Storage Tank for any of the above applications or if you have any questions, please get in touch! You can also download our product and accessory sheets for even more detail.

Final note: non-potable water tanks could include a mixture of tankered water + harvested rainwater.

  • Bracketed Weight Column items denote heavier gauge material to contain liquids up to 1.5 SG e.g. slurry, toilet waste.
  • We use differing grades of plastic and vary the tank wall thickness to match the tank to your application.
  • Please note: tank sizes quoted are subject to a +/-3% variation as they expand and contract relative to temperature.
  • We reserve the right to amend the technical specification to improve the product without prior notification.

Technical Advantages

  • Built in lifting points
  • Flat base for stability
  • Self-supporting roofs for added strength
  • 620mm vented lid
  • Customisable to fulfill your needs

MULTIPLE APPLICATIONS

  • Bulk water storage (e.g. flushing toilets, hand washing in welfare cabins)
  • Store and provide water on construction sites or civil engineering applications
  • Use the water to wash down vehicles and/or machinery
  • Use as ballast or dust suppression on construction sites or industrial premises
  • Civil engineering applications with mains water
  • Mains water simply isn't accessible*
  • Back-up emergency drink water supply*
  • Food industry*
  • Temporary water supply for events and festivals*
  • An extra resource in the unfortunate event of fire
* These applications only apply to Potable water storage tanks, i.e. they have been manufactured with materials and parts that are WRAS approved and conform with regulations for safe drinking water.

UpgradeS & CONFIGURABLE OPTIONS

  • Tank linking kits
  • Filling options - from ball cock float valves (water) to "up and over" pipework (pumped toilet waste)
  • Sight glass / level gauge options
  • Recommended venting options when filling/evacuating > 500 litres per minute
  • Bolt down feet for added security, especially on exposed sites
  • Rainwater harvesting kits
  • Bunded tanks for spill protection
  • Tank insulation - 13mm & 25mm

Warnings

  • Fresh water has a specific gravity (SG) close to 1. This means that 1 litre of water will effectively weigh 1 KG.
  • Our potable and non-potable tanks are therefore rated at SG1.
  • Any tank with heat-welded flanges / fittings will require a slurry/industrial tank
  • Consider bunded tanks to avoid spillages. Biggest bunded tank is 10,000 litres.
  • DELIVERY IMPLICATIONS OF LARGE TANKS
  • Delivery on a 44 foot articulated lorry
  • It is the customer’s responsibilty to offload
  • A HIAB truck may be required
  • Delivery is kerbside only - the delivery driver is not indemnified to install the product
  • Only lift or move when empty
  • PLEASE CONSULT OUR LITERATURE ON CORRECT INSTALLATION OF TANKS:
PAY PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE BASE REQUIRED TO SUPPORT THE TANK WHEN FULL - WE RECOMMEND A CONCRETE BASE
  • Tank base should be a minimum of (600mm) (24") larger than the diameter of the tank and should have a minimum depth of:
    > 102mm (4") for tanks up to 2,500 litres
    > 152mm (6") for tanks 4,000 litres to 10,000 litres
    > 204mm (8") for tanks over 10,000 litres

Vertical Waste and Water Tank. Easy to linkDraining option: tanks are typically drained, emptied or connected to pumps from fittings at the base. Available with a range of connector types, valves and sizes. Filling option: "up and over" pipework to safely fill tanks from the top. Pipework is secured to side of tank and typically terminates 4' / 120cms above ground for ease of connection.Venting option: it is best practice and extends tank life by ensuring tanks are vented to equalise pressures, especially during rapid emptying or filling.Linking option: tanks can be linked to increase capacity or for site-specific requirements. e.g. accept larger water deliveries or extend period between waste removal.Site glass option: external clear tube "cat and mouse" gauge shows the level of liquid inside tank using a ball and float system for easy monitoring.Anchoring option: bolt down feet anchor tank(s) to a solid base to prevent movement. e.g. on exposed sites.Rainwater harvesting option: safely capture rainwater from roofs with a range of three different filters, depending on roof area.Bunded option: a tank within a tank. For main tanks up to 10,000 litres, a larger external tank will catch any leaks and prevent an environmental spill.Insulating option: durable external foam finish in 13mm or 25mm thickness.
